Optimising Packaging: Our Solutions
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces new requirements for minimum recycled content (Article 7), recyclable packaging design (Article 6), and packaging reduction and reuse targets, driving organizations to reassess their transit packaging strategies. Signode supports compliance with these requirements through a portfolio of end-of-line packaging solutions that help reduce reliance on virgin materials, improve recyclability, and optimize packaging efficiency.
Signode solutions help facilitate material recovery and circular material flows, we design products to minimize unnecessary material use and improve load containment efficiency, helping businesses align with evolving PPWR requirements while maintaining product protection, load stability, operational performance, and supply chain reliability.
Recycled Content within Packaging
The EU’s PPWR article 7 “Minimum Recycled Content” requirements for certain plastic packaging categories in packaging. Businesses should assess their packaging portfolio now to support future compliance planning.
Signode helps companies prepare for this transition with recycled-content solutions, including MIMA® HOOD, MIMA® FILMS 20RSC501 PCR stretch film, TENAX® PET strap, and DYLASTIC® PP strap. These solutions are designed to maintain load security, packaging performance, and operational efficiency while reducing dependence on virgin plastics.
Proactive adaptation today helps control future compliance costs and environmental impact.
Recyclable Packaging
By 2030, the PPWR article 6 “Recyclable Packaging” mandates packaging designed for efficient recovery and recycling with at least 70% recyclability.
Signode's portfolio of 100% recyclable transit packaging solutions, including APEX® and MAGNUS® steel strapping, TENAX® PET strap, DYLASTIC® PP strap, Mimalite® Oriented Film, MIMA® HOOD, MIMA® FILMS Stretch Film and ANGLEBOARD® edge protection, designed to support efficient recycling pathways while delivering the protection and load security required throughout the supply chain.
Early transition is key to ensuring compliance and operational continuity.
Optimal Reduced Material Usage
PPWR introduces strict requirements to reduce packaging volume, eliminate unnecessary material and improve packaging reusability.
The 25/02/2026 delegated act exempts wrapping and strap packaging from the 100% reuse requirement. However, starting 1st of January 2030 all economic operators in the EU must ensure that at least 40% of transport and sales packaging is reusable.
Optimize material usage while maintaining load security with MIMA® FILMS and MIMA® Lite PCR stretch and pre-stretched films and MIMA® HOOD PCR stretch hood solutions. Available with up to 35% recycled content and 100% recyclable, these high-performance solutions help support sustainability initiatives without sacrificing packaging performance.
Optimizing today supports both regulatory compliance and cost efficiency.
