Local Students Discover Sustainable Manufacturing at Fontaine-Lès-Luxeuil

Signode's Fontaine-Lès-Luxeuil production site (France) recently welcomed seven students from the local secondary school for an immersive visit into the heart of its industrial operations. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to introducing younger generations to manufacturing careers while raising awareness of the importance of the circular economy.
During the visit, the students explored the various stages involved in manufacturing Litec® and Tchipgard® edge protection. Guided by site personnel, they toured the production facilities and observed industrial equipment in operation. This hands-on experience gave them valuable insight into production processes, quality requirements, and the wide range of skills involved in running a modern manufacturing facility.
One of the highlights of the visit was the presentation of the site’s sustainability approach. The students learned how the Tchipgard® corners are produced using PIR (Post-Industrial Recycled) materials derived from industrial packaging waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill or incineration. By transforming these materials into new products, the company helps reduce waste, preserve natural resources, and support a more sustainable manufacturing model.
This practical example of circular economy principles enabled the students to better understand the role industry can play in promoting environmental responsibility. Discussions with employees also provided an opportunity to learn more about industrial careers, required competencies, and future opportunities within the sector.
The visit concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere with refreshments and sweets, allowing students and employees to continue their discussions informally.
