Palletization of Drums

Transporting drums, whether filled with chemicals, oils, food ingredients, or industrial materials presents unique challenges in load securement. Their cylindrical shape makes them prone to rolling, shifting, or toppling during transit, especially when palletized.

To address these risks, Signode offers a combination of strapping technologies and the innovative Drumclip™ solution, delivering a reliable and efficient approach to drum palletization.

Understanding the challenges of Drum Palletization

These challenges are due to the cylindrical shape which makes drums prone to shift during handling or transport. This can cause load imbalance, potentially damaging surrounding cargo as well as posing a safety hazard. Effective palletization requires solutions that lock drums in place, maintain load integrity, and comply with transport regulations.

Signode Strapping Solutions

Strapping systems are a cornerstone of drum palletization. Using high-tensile steel or polyester (PET) strapping, drums can be tightly bound to pallets, preventing movement and improving stability. These straps are applied using manual, battery-powered, or fully automated tools, offering flexibility for different operational scales.

Depending on the drum, steel or polyester strapping is suitable. Steel is ideal for heavy-duty applications and high-tension requirements. Polyester strap is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and suitable for long-haul shipments. In combination with strapping, edge protection and corner boards protect drum surfaces from abrasion and impact.

Drumclip™

Drumclip devices lock drums together on a pallet, preventing lateral movement. Made from durable, impact-resistant plastic, Drumclip devices fit snugly over the top rim of adjacent drums, creating a unified block that resists shifting. This solution is quick and easy to install while being reusable and options available to be compatible with various drum sizes.

Integrating Signode strapping with Drumclip™  technology provides shippers a comprehensive solution for drum palletization. This system not only improves load security but also streamlines warehouse operations, reduces damage claims, and supports compliance with international shipping standards.
